Registration
- Students should register at the beginning of the Fall semester.
- Each course lasts for a full year.
- The level of classes assigned will be based on an evaluation of the
student's knowledge.
- Registration deadlines will be announced in the Diwan.
- Registration forms can be obtained from the Education Secretary, Treasurer or online.
- Classes start in September and end in June
Attendance
Policy
- Regular
attendance is critical to success of student.
- Parents
are requested to make sure that their child(ren) reach the Gurudwara
by 10:00 a.m. every Sunday so that they can fully participate in all
classes and make satisfactory progress.
- Teachers
will not repeat lessons for students who miss class.
It is the parent's responsibility to make sure that their child
makes up any missed work by doing additional work at home.
- A student must be present
and on time to 75% of the classes to pass a grade.
- Regular
attendance of the Shabad class is required if the student wishes to
participate in singing shabads in sangat.
- Those who have 100% attendance
will be given special recognition.
Student Code of Conduct
All students are expected to act in a manner which will not hinder their
learning or the learning of their fellow students. It is the parent’s and
student’s responsibility to make sure
that the student follows the Code of Conduct specified below.
- Show respect for school, teachers and classmates.
- Do not talk in class without the teacher’s permission.
- Enter and leave the room quietly.
- Come to class prepared with all supplies and homework complete.
- Respect other people’s opinions and differences.
- Speak without using negative comments or improper language.
- Follow directions of all teachers and sewadars.
- Participate in all classroom activities.
- Be on-time for class. Students coming more than 10 minutes late will not be allowed to
attend that class. He/she may still
attend the following class.
- Student must do their own work. They may not copy others' answers on homework,
quizzes and tests. All incidents of copying will result in grade of zero and possibly
a meeting with the parents.
- Wear proper clothing and cover your head while in the Gurudwara.
- After classes are over every student must go to the Darbar Hall.
Student Progress
Evaluation and Grading
The teacher will
evaluate each student throughout the year. Grading is based on three
levels: "Outstanding", "Satisfactory", and "Needs
Improvement". The teacher will
review the evaluations and decide the student's grade. The student must have
an "Outstanding" or a "Satisfactory" grade level and a minimum
attendance of 75% to move onto the next course level.
Students who do not
succeed in fulfilling these requirements will repeat the same course during the next school year.
It is possible for the student to pass one course (e.g. Boli) but not the other (e.g.
Virsa).
Parent/Teacher
Meetings
Commitment
and involvement of parents is a key ingredient to the success of the
children. From time to time, Parent/Teacher meetings may be called to
discuss school issues. All parents are expected to participate.
